Artists invite us to open up. They have that ability to perform their art in such a subtle way that it touches our hearts & our minds: last weekend my wife & I enjoyed two exceptional cultural activities in Paris that generated several inspiring conversations between the two of us: the temporary exhibition ‘Julie Manet’ in Musée Marmottan Monet & the play ‘Maman’ at Théâtre Edouard VII, written by Samuel Benchetrit & performed by talented actors. Among them Vanessa Paradis & Éric Elmosnino. Some of the messages we’ve taken away from the play:
- Let’s seize the opportunity to have a real conversation with people we normally don’t have a (real) conversation with & build on what emerges.
- Let’s listen carefully to our very own needs & follow our urges when we feel it’s the right time, even if it leads to original or risky choices.
- Let’s trust the people who are close to us when they make the difficult choice to follow their urges, and acknowledge the opportunities it also offers to us.
- Let’s take the time to let go intense emotions of the past, like anger & sadness, in order to be able to be fully in the present moment & build a prosperous future.
- Let’s be vigilant to routines where we don’t see the other people we daily interact with, anymore, let’s be curious about them just as we were at the beginning of our encounter, let’s surprise them, open our arms to them & tell them how much we care about them.
What type of person or leader do you want to be? What type of experience do you want to offer to people you meet with? How do you ensure you gain access to new sources of inspiration? How will you make sure you stick to your intentions & measure your positive impact on others?
