Big boys & girls do cry! Emotions do matter & are the doorway to live a more spontaneous life while being more genuinely connected with others. We all experience the intensity of life. When intense emotions like anger, sadness, frustration, fear, joy or pride pop up, we basically have 2 choices: either we ignore these emotions, we contain them, they get accumulated & we express them later on in an impulsive, reactive & negative way to those concerned or those who aren’t even concerned; or we choose a different path: we meet our very own intense emotions, we express them on the spot in a spontaneous, yet intentional way & we create from it. In slow motion, next steps could happen: we acknowledge when we feel physical & emotional tension, we pause & are mindful, we respond to it by naming the emotion to others and explain why we feel this way, and observe their response. Just as we feel lighter when we express our emotions this way, we gain from enabling other people to express their emotions & feel lighter too. It could be that we triggered an emotion in others because of our behaviour (something we said or didn’t say, something we did or didn’t do) or not. Either way it will ultimately create a stronger connection between people.
